Our Mens Tees are now Fairtrade Certified
After 5 years of trying we have finally managed to get our t-shirts made using Fairtrade certified cotton. Trying to find a supplier that has the right certification to make our t-shirts able to get Fairtrade certified has been very hard indeed but after several trips to India and making new contacts we have now cracked it and got an excellent quality supplier with the highest possible ethical crudentials.
The cotton is grown in Gujerat in India by an association of cotton farmers called APFCG (Agrocel Pure and Fair Cotton Growers Association). The association has made a big difference to the farmers who have joined. They meet every month and discuss farming issues and what they can do together to make their businesses stronger. Before the formation of this group the farmers had little interaction.
Fairtrade guarantees these farmers a fair and stable price for the cotton which allows them to plan for their future. It covers the costs of production and provides a sustainable livelihood for the producers. The premium paid by Spunky.co.uk enables APFCG to fund projects that benefit the group and wider community. They have included business and agricultural training, drilling bore holes for clean water, improving the local school's facilities and solar powered lighting.
